Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins to Miss Rest of Year with Injury

Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins’ hope of reviving the team’s struggling offense was unfortunately short-lived, as the sixth-year veteran has been placed on injured reserve. This setback is particularly disheartening, given Dobbins’ inspiring comeback story. Just two years ago, he endured a season-ending injury, but last year he roared back with a thousand-yard rushing season while playing with the Chargers in Los Angeles.

The injury occurred during the third quarter of last week’s hard-fought 10-7 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Dobbins has already undergone surgery and is facing a challenging recovery. He believes the injury happened during a hip-drop tackle—a move banned by NFL rules—although, after the game, he expressed optimism, thinking he was “OK” at first.

Before the injury, Dobbins was a key contributor to the Broncos' offense, rushing for 772 yards on an impressive 5.05 yards per carry this season. He was determined to be a crucial part of the solution to the team’s ongoing offensive struggles. In fact, Dobbins is one of only nine running backs with a sufficient number of carries this season to average at least five yards per carry, highlighting his efficiency and big-play ability.

With Dobbins sidelined, much of the spotlight now shifts to rookie RJ Harvey, the Broncos’ second-round draft pick from this past April. Harvey has shown promise in limited action, carrying the ball 50 times for 214 yards and adding 25 receptions. Notably, he recorded the team’s longest run this season, a spectacular 50-yard dash against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. As the Broncos navigate this setback, all eyes will be on Harvey to step up and help fill the void left by Dobbins’ unfortunate injury.
