Bengals Superstar Ja’Marr Chase to Miss a Game Due to Suspension
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has been suspended for one game without pay after spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey during their recent matchup. If the suspension is upheld, Chase will miss his team’s upcoming Week 12 game against the New England Patriots. The incident took place amid Cincinnati's 34-12 defeat to the Steelers on Sunday.
After the game, Chase denied the accusation of spitting on Ramsey. However, footage captured on the field clearly showed the star wide receiver engaged in the act, corroborating Ramsey’s claims. The video evidence played a crucial role in the league’s decision to impose the suspension, emphasizing the NFL’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and respect among players.
In response to the incident, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor publicly condemned the behavior, describing it as “crossing the line.” While Taylor defended Chase’s overall character, he acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Obviously, what happened is crossing the line. He’ll own up to that.” Taylor’s remarks suggest that the team expects Chase to take responsibility and learn from this lapse in judgment.
The suspension carries significant financial consequences for Chase. He will forfeit his weekly salary of $448,333, as well as an additional $58,823 tied to a per-game active bonus. Beyond the monetary loss, this disciplinary action impacts both Chase’s availability and the Bengals’ offensive capabilities as they prepare for a crucial upcoming matchup.
This marks the second suspension this season related to players spitting on their opponents. Earlier, in Week 1, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was suspended after spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first play from scrimmage. The league’s firm stance sends a clear message that unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, reinforcing the importance of maintaining respect and integrity on the field.
