Eagles Future Hall of Famer to Miss Extended Time
The Philadelphia Eagles will face a significant challenge on their offensive line as they prepare to move forward without one of their franchise cornerstones. Future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson is expected to miss the next four to six weeks due to an injury sustained during Week 11. Early in the game against the Detroit Lions, Johnson, the All-Pro right tackle, was seen limping off the field and heading to the locker room with what was later confirmed to be a foot injury. On Monday, reports revealed that Johnson suffered a Lisfranc injury, a serious midfoot injury that requires careful treatment and recovery. While this injury is rather serious, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Johnson is not expected to be placed on IR at this time.
In preparation for such situations—with Johnson getting up there in age—the Eagles made a great move months ago by re-signing veteran swing tackle Fred Johnson. This decision is now proving invaluable, as Fred has already stepped in to fill the void left by Lane several times throughout the season. With Lane sidelined, Fred is poised to take on a semi-permanent role, providing much-needed stability, experience, and familiarity to the offensive front.
Lane Johnson’s impact on the field cannot be overstated. A two-time first-team All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler, he entered the game without having allowed a single sack or quarterback hit this season, solidifying his status as one of the league’s elite right tackles. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, but with the depth the Eagles have cultivated, they aim to maintain their competitiveness while he recovers.
