Commanders Add Former Titan to Practice Squad
Former Tennessee Titans first-round wide receiver Treylon Burks is set to join the Washington Commanders' practice squad, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport’s report on Thursday. The Commanders officially announced the signing on Friday, signaling their intent to bolster a depleted receiving corps.
At 25 years old, Burks played three seasons with the Titans before being waived/injured in late July after suffering a collarbone injury. His addition comes at a critical time for Washington, whose wide receiver room has been severely impacted by injuries. Key players like Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown have all been sidelined recently. Brown was placed on injured reserve due to a groin injury, Samuel has been limited by a heel issue and did not practice on Thursday, and McLaurin, battling a quad injury, has not played since Week 3 of the season.
Burks was selected 18th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft — a pick the Titans acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for A.J. Brown. Despite his high draft status, Burks’ NFL production has been modest over 27 games in Tennessee, where he recorded 53 receptions for 699 yards and one touchdown. However, his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas was far more impressive and highlights his potential. Burks amassed 2,399 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns over his three seasons with the Razorbacks. He earned three All-SEC honors, including a First-Team selection in 2021, when he posted 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns on 66 receptions. Notably, he became just the fourth player in Arkansas program history to exceed 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
By the time he finished college, Burks ranked sixth all-time in receiving yards, tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns, and 17th in scrimmage yards within the Arkansas record books. Washington is likely hoping that, given the right opportunities and with his health restored, Burks can translate that collegiate success to the NFL level and provide much-needed depth and dynamism to their struggling wide receiver group.
