Lions Extend WR Jameson Williams

Former Alabama All-American Jameson Williams has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Detroit Lions, featuring a maximum value of $83 million and $67 million in guaranteed money. This new deal reflects the organization’s confidence in Williams following his breakout 2024 season, where he emerged as a dominant offensive weapon. Over the course of the season, Williams recorded an impressive 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns, showcasing his ability to consistently make big plays down the field. Additionally, he contributed on the ground with 11 rushing attempts that yielded 61 yards and one touchdown, demonstrating his versatility and threat as a multifaceted playmaker.

Williams’ journey to this point has included overcoming early challenges. In 2023, he served a four-game suspension imposed by the NFL due to a gambling violation. Despite this setback, he still managed to contribute meaningfully in 12 regular-season games, finishing with 24 receptions for 354 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He also added three rushing attempts for 29 yards and one rushing touchdown, providing glimpses of his potential even in a limited role.

Originally, Williams was on the final year of his four-year, $17.462 million rookie contract, which he signed after Detroit traded up to select him 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Now entering his fourth season with the Lions in 2025, Williams is riding the momentum of a career-best 1,000-yard receiving campaign, signaling that he is poised to be a cornerstone of Detroit’s offense for years to come. This contract extension not only rewards his past performances but also sets the stage for him to continue developing into one of the league’s premier wide receivers.
