Teddy Bridgewater Lands a Deal with the Buccaneers
On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a one-year contract, bolstering their quarterback depth with seasoned experience. Throughout his NFL career, Bridgewater has donned the jerseys of the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins. He has appeared in 79 games, starting 65, and holds a near-even starting record of 33 wins and 32 losses. His postseason résumé includes a playoff appearance with the Vikings in 2015.
Bridgewater’s most recent full-time starting role came in 2021 with the Denver Broncos, where he started 14 games, threw for 3,052 yards, tallied 18 touchdowns against seven interceptions, and posted a strong 94.9 passer rating. The previous year, he started 15 games for the Carolina Panthers, amassing 3,733 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Vikings, Bridgewater has demonstrated resilience and versatility, contributing as both a starter and a dependable backup. Most recently, he was part of the Detroit Lions’ roster in the final weeks of the 2024 season, providing veteran leadership.
Bridgewater’s signing also strengthens the Buccaneers through his existing ties to the coaching staff. He previously started under new Tampa Bay defensive line coach Charlie Strong during Strong’s tenure as head coach at Louisville. Moreover, Bridgewater shares a connection with Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, having played under him with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, when Grizzard served as offensive quality control coach. Beyond professional bonds, Bridgewater and longtime Buccaneers defensive stalwart Lavonte David were teammates at Miami Northwestern High School, adding a layer of camaraderie and continuity to the locker room.
This blend of experience, leadership, and established relationships positions Bridgewater as a valuable asset as the Buccaneers aim to fortify their QB room for the upcoming season. Teddy has proven to be a quality backup when given the chance, and he is the consummate professional—a true pro’s pro. His value extends beyond the field, contributing significantly in the locker room and meeting rooms through his mental preparation and leadership. Ultimately, his addition strengthens the Buccaneers, even if it may not always be reflected physically through his on-field play.
