Falcons Extend OT Kaleb McGary to 2-Year Deal
A first-round pick by the Falcons in 2019, Kaleb McGary has established himself as a dependable cornerstone of the team’s offensive line, starting an impressive 92 games over the course of his six-year career. Recognizing his value as a blindside protector for quarterback Michael Penix III, the Falcons rewarded McGary’s consistent performance by signing him to a contract extension. On Monday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL reported that McGary inked a two-year, $30 million deal with Atlanta, underscoring the team’s commitment to maintaining stability up front.
This extension marks McGary’s second with the Falcons; his previous deal came in 2023—a three-year, $34.5 million contract. With this new agreement, McGary is now under contract through the 2027 season. The move carries particular significance given the continuity the Falcons have enjoyed along their offensive line. Last season, McGary, alongside Jake Matthews, Chris Lindstrom, and Matthew Bergeron, combined to miss just a single start—an extraordinary level of durability and cohesion. All four linemen are secured through at least the 2026 season, providing Atlanta with a stable and experienced foundation.
Early in his career, during his first three NFL seasons, McGary’s performance did not quite elevate him into the upper echelon of tackles; he consistently ranked outside the top 50 according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades. However, 2022 marked a turning point. McGary posted an impressive 86.6 grade, ranking fourth among tackles league-wide—a testament to his growth and refinement in both technique and consistency.
Beyond his technical skills, McGary’s durability and reliability have been key assets for the Falcons. He has appeared in at least 14 games each season since entering the league, demonstrating remarkable resilience and conditioning. With this new contract, expectations are high that McGary will remain a steadfast and effective presence on the Falcons’ offensive line, providing crucial protection and run support for years to come.
