Martin Emerson Jr. to Miss Entire 2025 Season with Knee Injury
The Browns’ outlook for the 2025 season has taken a significant hit with the news of cornerback Martin Emerson Jr.’s injury. On Tuesday during training camp, Emerson suffered a torn Achilles—a devastating setback confirmed by Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski on Wednesday morning. Emerson had cemented himself as one of the NFL’s most promising young cornerbacks following an impressive 2023 campaign, and he was poised to further establish his standing as a key defensive player this year.
The injury occurred in a non-contact situation during Tuesday's practice. While covering wide receiver Diontae Johnson on a go route, Emerson attempted to plant his left leg to make a play but suddenly collapsed to the ground in visible pain. His immediate reaction—removing and throwing off his helmet in frustration—underscored the emotional toll of the injury. Unable to put any weight on the affected leg, Emerson was promptly assisted onto a cart and taken off the field.
In response to this unfortunate development, Stefanski expressed his disappointment but also highlighted the resilience he expects from Emerson.
“Disappointed. Obviously, injuries are the worst part about our game, but he will bounce back,” Stefanski said. “I know what he's made of, and I know he's got our support. He's got his teammates' support.”
Selected in the third round as the 68th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Emerson was entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Browns. Over the course of 50 games, including 33 starts, he amassed notable defensive stats: 202 tackles, four interceptions, and 34 pass breakups—statistics that reflect his impact and promise on the field. His absence will undoubtedly leave a gap in the Browns’ secondary as they prepare for the upcoming season.
