Jaire Alexander Finds a New Home in Baltimore

Jaire Alexander has quickly become one of the most sought-after players on the market since his release from the Green Bay Packers last week. With several teams competing for his talents, it was evident that Alexander would choose a destination offering the best opportunity to capture a Super Bowl title. This week, the Baltimore Ravens fulfilled Lamar Jackson’s desire by signing the former Packers cornerback, marking a significant addition to their defensive backfield.

The one-year contract with Alexander is reportedly worth up to $6 million, including $2 million in performance-based incentives, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Alexander’s arrival bolsters the Ravens’ secondary, making it one of the most formidable units in the NFL. Not only does this move reunite Alexander with Lamar—his close friend and former teammate from their days at Louisville—but it also brings a proven two-time Pro Bowler into a defense hungry for championship-caliber talent.

At 28 years old, Alexander was released by the Packers on June 9 after two seasons hampered by injury. Despite playing in just 34 of 68 possible games since 2021, he earned All-Pro honors in both 2020 and 2022, underscoring his elite level of play when healthy. Alexander had been slated to earn $17.5 million this season, but none of it was guaranteed, making his release a financial decision for Green Bay.

If Alexander can stay on the field, the Ravens will boast one of the league’s strongest defensive backfields. He complements a secondary already anchored by first-round talents Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins at cornerback, as well as safeties Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks. This revitalized secondary aims not only to stifle opposing offenses but also to fuel the Ravens’ championship aspirations in the coming season.
