Sanders Has Second Speeding Incident in Last Month

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been one of the most polarizing players in the sport of football over the past few years. Whether it’s his flash on or off the field or his decisiveness as a player, Sanders has been a mainstay in the public eye. Unfortunately, Sanders has drawn significant attention after being pulled over for speeding in Strongsville—marking not the first instance this month of a speeding citation.

According to Medina Municipal Court records filed on June 6, Sanders was previously stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Medina. Authorities confirmed to cleveland.com that the earlier stop occurred at 5:13 p.m. on June 5 along Interstate 71 southbound in Brunswick Hills Township. At that time, Sanders was clocked driving at 91 mph in a posted 65 mph zone—a significant speed over the limit. Following this, on June 16, court documents revealed that Sanders failed to appear at the scheduled arraignment related to that particular incident.

Then, on June 17, Sanders once again found himself pulled over—this time by Strongsville police—after allegedly driving at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone. This stop took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 72 northbound near Ohio 82 while he was behind the wheel of a 2025 Dodge vehicle. Authorities noted the severity of the speeding violation, given both the time and the excessive speed. Sanders is scheduled to appear in Strongsville’s Mayor’s Court on July 3 to address these charges. In response to the multiple incidents, a Browns spokesperson stated, "He is taking care of the tickets."

These repeated citations have drawn attention not only because of Sanders’ high-profile status as a professional athlete but also due to the dangers associated with excessive speeding. Cleveland has to be aware of the situation they are dealing with and properly address it with Sanders right away. A slap on the wrist, so to speak, is not enough for this type of behavior. Time and time again, we have seen exceptionally talented individuals ruin not just their own lives but others' as well with reckless driving incidents. The NFL as an organization is no different in this regard, as there have been multiple lethal incidents related to its players—Henry Ruggs in 2021, for example.

It remains to be seen what Cleveland will do as this situation progresses, but one can only hope Shedeur and the organization take it very seriously.
