Cardinals Extend One of the League’s Best Tight Ends

The Arizona Cardinals and standout tight end Trey McBride have reached a significant agreement on a four-year contract extension, the team announced. This new deal cements McBride’s role as a cornerstone of the Cardinals’ offense for years to come, as one of the best young tight ends in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the contract is valued at an impressive $76 million, with $43 million guaranteed, making McBride the highest-paid tight end in NFL history. Since being selected as the Cardinals’ second-round draft pick out of Colorado State in 2022, McBride has rapidly ascended the ranks to establish himself as one of the premier tight ends in the league.

Over the course of 46 games played, including 38 starts, McBride has amassed an impressive 199 receptions for 2,028 yards and four receiving touchdowns. The 2024 season marked a breakout year for McBride, as he surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving milestone for the first time in his career. He hauled in an outstanding 111 catches and converted 63 of those into first downs—both of which led the team. Additionally, McBride set a new franchise record for the most receptions by a Cardinals tight end in a single season, besting his own previous mark of 81 catches from 2023.

The ongoing chemistry between McBride and quarterback Kyler Murray is evident, with their connection strengthening with every game they play together. This evolving partnership continues to be a vital component of the Cardinals' offensive success. With Murray’s wide array of abilities—both passing and rushing—mixed with McBride’s skills as a pass catcher, it creates a very exciting scenario for next year’s Cardinals offense.
