Pete Carroll Agrees to Deal With Raiders

At 73 years old, Carroll is set to become the oldest head coach in NFL history when he takes the field for the Raiders in the 2025 season. His prior experience coaching the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2023 was marked by notable successes, including a memorable victory in Super Bowl XLVIII. However, he parted ways with the franchise last January, leaving many to wonder about the next chapter of his storied career. Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer has reported that Carroll is keen on bringing stability to the Raiders by adding a clear successor to his coaching staff. This forward-thinking approach is designed to create a smooth transition for the team when Carroll ultimately decides to retire.

After his tenure with Seattle, Carroll returned to the University of Southern California (USC) in the summer to take on a teaching role, engaging with the next generation of students and athletes. While he shifted to a different environment, he expressed his thoughts on coaching, stating that, although he did not initially desire to return to the sidelines, he still possessed the stamina and drive necessary to fulfill the demanding role of a head coach.

Interestingly, Carroll and his former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson have reportedly been linked for a potential reunion on the Raiders. Wilson just finished his one-year deal with the Steelers, and it could be possible that the team looks to go in another direction despite Wilson playing some decent ball. Wilson would surely be a much-improved addition over everyone the Raiders have had in what I would say is at least a decade. On top of this, Wilson shares a wealth of winning experience that could be infectious for a franchise that really needs a breath of fresh air. While it’s unsure whether the Steelers will be willing to let Wilson walk out the door, the idea of a reunion with his former coach could prove to be intriguing enough to Russell to pry him away.
