Patriots' Christian Barmore Returns to Non-Football Injury List
Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore will be returning to the non-football illness list after suffering from "recurring symptoms," according to the team. Barmore initially found himself on the reserve/non-football illness list back in July, following a serious health scare that involved the diagnosis and treatment for blood clots.
His journey back to the field was both arduous and hopeful, culminating in his return to action in November. However, this latest development effectively concludes his season, leaving fans and teammates praying for Barmore as he battles whatever he’s going through.
At just 25 years old, Barmore was activated last month after a prolonged absence during which he missed the first 10 games of the season. Despite the challenges, he managed to play in the past four games for New England, recording a total of six tackles and one sack. These contributions, though limited, testify to his resilience and toughness, which ultimately led to him being a second-round pick by the Patriots in 2021. Over the course of his young career, Barmore has demonstrated his capability as a formidable presence on the field, amassing 13.5 career sacks, 139 tackles, 33 quarterback hits, nine passes defensed, and one forced fumble across 48 career games, including 11 starts. New England rewarded Barmore with a significant payday after 2023, as the defensive lineman signed a four-year, $83 million extension.
It’s truly devastating, not only for Patriots fans but on a human level, to see a young man forced to take a step away from doing what he loves for health reasons; it is heartbreaking. Barmore is immensely talented, and the game of football is better when he’s actively playing. That said, Barmore’s health is much more important than anything he can provide on the gridiron. I hope he makes a swift and successful recovery and is back dominating opposing offensive lines before we know it.
