Bobby Okereke Lands On IR for Giants

Little has gone right for New York football this season, with both the Jets and Giants proving to be significant disappointments regarding how the year has unfolded. With a few weeks left, many Giants fans are primarily looking forward to offseason activities like free agency and, in particular, the draft. However, the season isn’t quite over yet, and with it comes a series of injuries that continue to derail this NY team. The New York Giants made a significant roster move on Saturday by placing inside linebacker Bobby Okereke, who is dealing with a back injury, and outside linebacker Patrick Johnson, who is struggling with a knee issue, on injured reserve. This decision effectively sidelines both players for the remainder of the season, a development that had been anticipated for the past few days.

Okereke's situation is particularly notable given his remarkable durability in recent seasons; he famously didn’t miss a single practice or game snap last year. This season, however, he has been plagued by what has been reported as a herniated disc in his back, which has clearly hindered his ability to perform at his usual high level. Prior to this injury, Bobby had established himself as a consistent presence on the field, missing no more than two games in total over his last five seasons. Okereke has been promising for New York since he signed with the team in March 2023. He’s a captain of this team and was a significant part of what GM Joe Schoen had hoped would be a turnaround for the franchise. Unfortunately, as we know now, things haven’t gone according to plan, as the focus has now shifted to the offseason for many. While the 2024 season comes to a conclusion, I hope that Bobby O will take the time to get healthy and come back better than ever for the Giants next season.
