David Montgomery Gets Positive Update on Knee Injury

It seems that the dynamic duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, often likened to the iconic Sonic and Knuckles, may not be finished for the season as we once feared. Just a few days ago, there were serious concerns that Montgomery could be lost for the remainder of the year due to numerous reports suggesting serious damage to his MCL. However, recent updates suggest a glimmer of hope. Head coach Dan Campbell provided an encouraging outlook by stating, "I am optimistic based on a couple of doctors he saw recently. I think we may see where this thing goes." This statement hints at the possibility of Montgomery’s return, and it is a welcome piece of news for both the team and its supporters. Campbell elaborated further, adding, "It certainly sounds more optimistic."

Montgomery has been a key contributor in one of the league's premier backfields alongside Jahmyr Gibbs for the Detroit Lions. In his second season with the franchise and sixth overall in the NFL, he has accumulated an impressive 185 carries, resulting in 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. His thunder to Gibbs' lightning has been dynamic, propelling the Lions' ground game to the top of the league.

Without him, the bulk of the load falls on Gibbs' shoulders as he becomes the primary back. This should prove to be no problem for Gibbs, as the first-round draft pick has been dynamic with the touches he has received in his short career. Gibbs has run for nearly 2,000 yards thus far in his two-year career, with this season seeing him eclipse 1,000 yards and score 11 touchdowns. He has been downright remarkable with the ball in his hands, averaging over five yards per carry throughout his career. His dynamic ability as a runner perfectly complements his ability to be a weapon out of the backfield in the passing game as well.

With only a few short weeks left in the NFL regular season, it will be interesting to see how Detroit and its cast manage amidst Montgomery’s absence. One thing is for sure: this team will be in the playoffs, competing for a Super Bowl in a short amount of time. Hopefully, for the team and fans alike, we will receive more positive information regarding Montgomery and his progress toward returning to the field.
