Edwards-Helaire Signs with Hometown Saints

The Kansas City Chiefs decided it was time to move on from Clyde Edwards-Helaire on Monday, opting to release him. Clyde hit waivers and eventually cleared them, freeing himself up to sign with any team. Edwards-Helaire did not remain without an NFL team for long, as his hometown Saints decided to pick up the former Chief, as the team announced on Thursday.

Edwards-Helaire was a highly touted first-round draft pick for the Chiefs in 2020, selected with the 32nd overall pick. His rookie season was promising; he quickly established himself as a key player, leading the team in rushing with an impressive total of 803 yards and scoring four touchdowns. His explosive start showcased his potential and brought optimism to the Chiefs' backfield. However, over the following seasons, his production experienced a notable decline, raising questions about his role and contributions to the team.

Despite these challenges, joining the Saints provides Edwards-Helaire with a fresh opportunity to revitalize his career. As he steps onto the practice squad in New Orleans, he aims to prove himself once again and work his way back to a prominent role within the team's offense. Edwards possesses a similar skill set to that of the Saints' longtime starter Alvin Kamara, and while not as established as Kamara, he could provide some solid statistics in that type of role. It is unknown when CEH will officially join the team off the practice squad; however, it is expected he will see the field in the next week or so.
