Lions Lose Montgomery for the Rest of the Season
The Detroit Lions continue to face an onslaught of bad news on the injury front, as this most recent injury could significantly impact their chances of reaching the Super Bowl. Running back David Montgomery has unfortunately suffered a season-ending MCL tear during the team's Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills, as confirmed by Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
Montgomery's injury became a focal point when he left the field with a knee issue in the second quarter. Initially, it seemed that his absence would be a temporary setback, as Jahmyr Gibbs stepped in to take over all the snaps for the remainder of the half. However, to the relief of fans and teammates alike, Montgomery made a brief return to the lineup after halftime, providing a glimmer of hope. Tragically, that hope was short-lived; he exited the game once again, forcing Gibbs to assume control for the entire remainder of the contest.
This devastating turn of events highlights what has become a series of severe injuries afflicting this immensely talented Lions team. The duo of Montgomery and Gibbs has been an integral force for this Detroit offense and has, in my opinion, played the most significant role in propelling the Lions to a 12-2 record. The duo, nicknamed Sonic & Knuckles, will have to find a way to continue producing without the hard-hitting back available for the rest of the way. Montgomery was having a Pro Bowl-caliber season before this injury, with 185 carries, 775 yards, and 12 touchdowns.
