Guard Kenyon Green Goes Down with Season-Ending Injury
Kenyon Green may have just wrapped up his final appearance with the Houston Texans, and if this is how it concludes, it's a disheartening closing chapter to his time with the team.
During Thursday's 21-13 defeat to the New York Jets, Green sustained a shoulder injury that has ended his season, sidelining him for the rest of the 2024 regular season. The injury occurred in the first half when quarterback C.J. Stroud unintentionally landed on him during a third-down play. This unfortunate situation marks the second season in three years that Green has found himself on the injured reserve list due to a shoulder issue, having missed the entirety of the 2023 season after suffering an injury in the preseason finale.
A former first-round selection, there had been speculation regarding Green’s potential trade before Tuesday’s 3 p.m. deadline, particularly following two underperforming seasons at left guard. Despite being the 15th overall pick in 2022, he has consistently faced challenges with pass protection throughout his early career. Green is still young, with ample time for improvement over the course of his career. Unfortunately, he now faces an even steeper uphill battle with this new injury in a sequence of devastating setbacks. Jarrett Patterson is expected to replace Green once he returns from concussion protocol. Houston will face Detroit on November 10th on Sunday Night Football.
