Jameis Winston Set to Start in Watson’s Absence

Jameis Winston is set to start over Dorian Thompson-Robinson, despite DTR having been elevated to the backup role for last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Cleveland Browns began this season confident in their quarterback depth, with a clear understanding that backup roles could shift as needed. This competitive dynamic has generated interest as fans and analysts alike assess each quarterback’s performance potential.

Previously, Winston held the backup position and was used for short-yardage plays, specifically QB sneaks. Last week, however, the coaching staff designed a package for Thompson-Robinson, elevating him to backup. Unfortunately, his performance in relief of Watson was inconsistent; he completed 11 of 24 attempts for 82 yards and threw two interceptions. He also sustained a right finger injury during the loss to the Bengals but demonstrated resilience by fully participating in practice throughout the week.

This has set the stage for Winston's return to the starting lineup, bringing his characteristic “hit or miss” style that has defined his career. Winston’s deep passing ability has drawn comparisons to Joe Flacco’s impact last season when he guided the Browns to the playoffs. With so much at stake, fans and the team are hopeful that Winston can deliver a strong performance, showcasing his preparation and skill. All eyes will be on him to see if this time, the “hits” will outweigh the “misses.”
