Miami Can’t Escape the Injury Bug Amidst Latest News on Jaelan Phillips
In the latest string of unfortunate injuries to hit the Miami Dolphins, pass rusher Jaelan Phillips has been diagnosed with a torn ACL. Phillips announced that he will miss the remainder of the season and will require reconstructive surgery. This marks the second consecutive season that Phillips has faced a significant injury, as he also tore his Achilles in 2023, cutting his season short and hampering his development.
The loss of Phillips will undoubtedly be a major setback for the Dolphins' defense. As a young, talented linebacker, Phillips had recorded 6.5 sacks in 2023 before his Achilles injury, proving his ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Even in 2024, despite limited playing time, he continued to show his value with a sack, a tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits. His absence leaves a significant void in Miami’s defensive lineup, as his tenacity and playmaking ability were key to the team's success.
This Sunday, the Dolphins face the New England Patriots, a team already struggling along the offensive line. Although this creates an opportunity for Miami’s defense, it’s unfortunate that Phillips won’t be able to take the field. In his absence, veteran defensive tackle Calais Campbell will need to step up and help apply pressure to Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett. While it’s a winnable game for Miami, they’ll need all hands on deck along the defensive front to secure a victory.
