Kupp Joins Rams' Growing Injury List
The Rams’ injury woes continue to mount as star wide receiver Cooper Kupp has now been added to their growing list of sidelined players. Following second-year receiver Puka Nacua's placement on IR after Week One, Kupp is the latest casualty in a season already plagued by health concerns.
On Thursday, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Kupp suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, causing him to miss most of the action. While this news is concerning for the Rams, there is some relief: McVay stated that Kupp will not be placed on injured reserve, as the team expects him to return within the next four weeks. The timeline, however, remains “fluid,” with McVay emphasizing that the team will take a cautious, day-by-day approach to Kupp’s recovery.
What’s clear is that Kupp will miss this Sunday’s crucial divisional matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. This leaves the Rams' offense in a tough spot, as both of their top receivers—Kupp and Nacua—will be unavailable. The burden will now fall on players like Jordan Whittington and fourth-year wideout Tyler Johnson to step up. Johnson, who had a solid showing in Week One with seven catches for 79 yards, will likely be a key target for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Whittington, though limited in regular-season action thus far, will need to play a more prominent role in the coming weeks.
In addition to the receiving corps, running back Kyren Williams is expected to be heavily involved in both the running and passing games, given the team’s lack of healthy playmakers. Rookie Blake Corum may also see an increased role as the Rams look to compensate for their depleted offense.
With a formidable 49ers defense awaiting them, the Rams face an uphill battle in Week Three. Despite the early season challenges, they will need to find creative ways to move the ball and keep their season on track, even with Kupp and Nacua on the sidelines.
