Mike Williams Expected to See Higher Snap Count in Week 2

The Jets dropped their first game of the season on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. In that game, newly signed wide receiver Mike Williams saw limited action, playing only a handful of snaps. The former Charger has struggled with injuries throughout his career, having never completed a full season and missing most of last year after landing on IR in September. However, Head Coach Robert Saleh stated that Williams will see an increased snap count for this Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

When healthy, Williams adds a dynamic element to the Jets' offense—something that could prove invaluable for Aaron Rodgers and company. His large frame and ability to win contested catches make him a dangerous weapon, particularly in one-on-one situations. Williams thrived in such scenarios with former teammate Justin Herbert, and now, paired with Rodgers, his skill set should complement fellow Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson’s versatility allows him to line up both outside and in the slot, and Williams’ presence should create mismatches in man coverage, adding another dimension to New York’s offense.

While it's uncertain how much more involved Williams will be in Week 2, his mere presence on the field poses a threat that opposing defenses must account for. The Titans' defense looked solid against rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in their Week 1 victory, but the Jets will aim to get their passing game on track against a Tennessee unit that may not be as formidable as the 49ers. Additionally, Williams’ size makes him a valuable blocker in the run game, which could further help running back Breece Hall.

With both teams entering Sunday’s matchup without a win, it promises to be an exciting contest. All eyes will be on Williams as he looks to make a bigger impact and contribute to the Jets' offense moving forward.
