Hollywood Brown to Miss Time on IR
Some unfortunate news out of Kansas City this week, as deep-threat wide receiver Hollywood Brown has been placed on injured reserve, as confirmed by Head Coach Andy Reid. Since entering the league in 2019 with the Baltimore Ravens, Brown has established himself as one of the premier downfield weapons in the NFL. With a career average of nearly 12 yards per reception, Brown's speed and ability to stretch the field have made him a valuable asset when healthy.
However, injuries have been a persistent issue for Brown. Over the past two seasons, he has missed 8 of a possible 34 games, limiting his availability. Despite this, Brown has proven to be effective when on the field. In his lone full 16-game season, he posted over 90 catches, 1,000 yards, and six touchdowns, demonstrating his potential as a game-changing playmaker.
With Brown now set to miss several weeks on IR, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy will need to step up and continue making an impact. Worthy caught the attention of fans and analysts alike with a dynamic two-touchdown performance in the season opener against the Ravens. Much like Brown, Worthy's speed is a standout attribute. At this spring’s NFL Combine, he broke the record for the fastest 40-yard dash time, clocking in at a blazing 4.21 seconds. Now, he’ll be thrust into a larger role, tasked with helping keep the Chiefs’ high-powered offense rolling alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The responsibility in the receiving corps will now primarily fall on Worthy and second-year wideout Rashee Rice, who showed promise in Week 1 with over 100 receiving yards. Paired with future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce, this trio should be more than capable of keeping Kansas City's passing attack potent. The Chiefs face the Cincinnati Bengals this week, with the Bengals still seeking their first win of the season. As usual, this AFC matchup promises to be an exciting game.
