Dolphins Focus Shifting Towards Hill Post-Tua Contract

With the Tua Tagovailoa contract finally wrapped up, the focus for the Miami Dolphins front office has shifted to superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill and his contract. Reports have emerged claiming that Hill would like a new contract to reflect the current state of the WR market. Hill has also stated that he wants to remain in Miami if all things go smoothly. Currently, Hill is making $30 million a year based on his annual average value, placing him in the top 5 among all WRs. Still, Tyreek is looking for more money, similar to what Vikings WR Justin Jefferson got this offseason. Jefferson signed a four-year, $140 million extension earlier in the offseason, setting the benchmark for the current rate of elite WRs. Hill certainly belongs in that group of upper-echelon players, as he is undoubtedly the best deep threat in the game with his lightning speed.

For Miami, I don’t think there should be much of a decision on whether or not this should get done. Hill is a tremendous part of the offense and completely changes the dynamic of a game. He is someone that teams have nightmares about when planning how to stop Miami. Players of this magnitude don’t come around often, and with your franchise QB locked up in Tua Tagovailoa, you have to continue to support him with the best possible supporting cast. It would be ignorant for Miami to believe they can do without Hill due to a price tag issue. His impact directly affected the growth of Tua Tagovailoa and helped elevate him into what is now a $50 million-a-year QB. Players like Hill, with little to no recent off-the-field issues, deserve to be paid and should be paid accordingly. If you have one of the best players at a position who actively wants to remain on your team, you have to do everything in your power to ensure that reality.
