Vikings Drop Game 2 in Philly

After what couldn’t have been a better start to the season by dominating the Packers who finished as a top 2 seed in the last 3 years of the NFC, the Vikings came out flat against Philly and got manhandled. The offense early on could not get anything going with two 3 and outs to start the game. However, the defense seemed to be even more lost on the field. Philly was able to do whatever they wanted against them, either running the ball or passing thru the air. Vikings seemed to be playing very questionable soft coverage all game and that was not working. The lack of adjustments from that side of the ball seemed quite confusing.

The offense had 12 drops on the day, with one being a wide open touchdown pass that would have made the game 21-14. Irv Smith needs to get better or else we will also play Mundt the rest of the season. In the second half the lackluster offense and, in particular, the decision making of Kirk Cousins led to terrible interceptions that ultimately put the game out of reach. Out of 4 red zone trips in the second half the Vikings scored exactly 0 POINTS! Three forced throws from Kirk and a miscommunication were just the cherry on top of a terrible game.

I hope this team is ready for this Sunday because early on this season it is a must win. A chance to start 2-0 in the division would be amazing but we need to earn it. The Lions have a great offense and we need to figure out how to contain their weapons. This will be a big test for first year Vikings defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. It will also be a good test to see if the offense can bounce back and move the ball like they did in week 1.
