Jordan Love Signs Massive 4-Year Extension
One of the biggest questions of the offseason has been answered this week, as the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love have come to terms on a brand new four-year, $220 million extension. Love will now be tied as the highest-paid QB in the entire NFL, alongside Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, at $55 million AAV. A price tag of that magnitude is sure to draw critics, as Love only has a single season as a starter under his belt after sitting two years behind Packers legend Aaron Rodgers. However, I believe this is the correct move for the organization as they have entrusted the keys to Love and are standing by their decision.
Worth the Money?
Despite the limited time as a starter, Love displayed an elite ability to lead a team that had the youngest roster in the entire NFL to a playoff berth and a win against the favored Dallas Cowboys. On top of this, it was largely due to Love’s high-level play that Green Bay made the postseason at all. Love put together a great season, leading GB to a 9-8 record with a 64% completion rate, 4,159 yards, and 32 touchdowns to eleven picks. Production at this level with a young and upcoming group of weapons is no laughing matter. He made an impact on his fellow peers around the NFL, who voted him as the 34th best player in the entire NFL via the Top 100 list. An undoubtedly impressive feat for someone in his first season as a pro with much more room to grow. As we continue to follow Love and his progression, we will be looking to see if he’s able to capture the Lombardi Trophy like his two predecessors before him.
Collectively, I believe that Love is more than worth the money that the Packers gave him. He’s proven to be able to win a playoff game and, more importantly, lead a team that was in need of a true leader. Talent-wise, he can make all the throws from various angles, along with good mobility. The physical abilities and cognitive traits are both instilled in Love at a high level, and that’s not something that comes around often. Green Bay is sure that Love is their QB of the future, and if his one season is any indication of what’s to come, I’d say it’s a very safe bet.
