Broncos Sign Guard Quinn Meinerz to Four-Year, $80 Million Deal

One of last season's top guards got paid this week as the Denver Broncos and Quinn Meinerz reached an agreement on a four-year, $80 million deal. Meinerz was the third-highest-rated guard in all of football last year, behind the likes of Chris Lindstrom and Kevin Dotson. The former third-round pick’s new contract extension is a lucrative one that places him among the top of the league in average annual value. The 25-year-old right guard has been a model of consistency, having played in 39 of 45 games in his career. He continues to improve in both his pass and run blocking abilities as he progresses through his career, making him a crucial piece in this Broncos rebuild.

Securing the O-Line

Since Sean Payton took over just a year ago, the Broncos have shown a strong commitment to fortifying the offensive line. Currently, the Broncos have over $250 million invested in their line, the most in the league by a large margin. Denver is the only team in the NFL with four players over $27 million in guarantees. Meinerz, Garret Bolles, Ben Powers, and Mike McGlinchy, all of whom make over $27 million in guarantees, form a strong offensive line that will surely be a key asset next year. This team is committed to the front, and will look to play through them this season as the quarterback situation remains uncertain. Clearly, Sean Payton has a vision to play in the trenches and win in the trenches next season as the Broncos aim to compete once again in the AFC.
