Giants Never Offered Barkley a Contract: Confirmed

One of the most compelling stories of this NFL offseason was the Giants losing their face of the franchise, running back Saquon Barkley, to their division rival Eagles. While a reconciliation between the two was always in question, no one expected the 27-year-old star to leave for a hated rival. Nevertheless, that was the case, and the decision spawned multiple rumors and theories about what truly went on behind the scenes. Fortunately, this is one of the few times that we actually have an answer to these highly debated topics, as the latest episode of "Hard Knocks" on HBO has given us an inside view.

For months, analysts have gone back and forth on whether or not the Giants actually made an offer to Barkley during the offseason. We now know the answer is no. During the episode, we see a scene of Giants GM Joe Schoen speaking to Barkley’s agent, in which he says, “we’re out” when he hears the price tag that Barkley was getting from Philly. New York chose not to try and match the Eagles' numbers, and thus he left. This aligns with what Saquon has said all offseason, which he has seemingly affirmed again with a repost on Twitter regarding the situation. For Giants fans, especially, this has been hard to witness, but the unjust attacks on Barkley aren’t fair, especially now that we know the situation. If anything, this inside look into how Schoen handles his business should raise concerned eyebrows among Giants fans.

Looking ahead to next season, one thing is for sure: the Giants vs. Eagles games will have an extra layer of adversity added to them, which should make for an exciting showdown.
