Patriots & Stevenson Agree on 4-Year Deal

The Patriots have come to terms with standout running back Rhamondre Stevenson on a four-year, $36 million deal. With an average annual value of $9 million and $17 million guaranteed, Stevenson is making more than I initially thought in my previous article discussing a potential extension. Still, that isn’t a bad thing at all, as I feel this contract is great for both sides.

The Talent

Stevenson is a true dual-threat back, capable of making plays on the ground and through the air. In 2022, Stevenson had 69 catches for 421 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to catch the football. Last season, injuries played a factor, but he was still very effective both on the ground and in the air, despite splitting the backfield with Ezekiel Elliott. Stevenson’s career average of 4.5 yards per carry is still solid, even though it dipped last year from where it was in his first two seasons. His ability to run hard and create favorable situations on second and third down will surely be something that New England relies heavily on, especially with rookie QB Drake Maye. The former fourth-round pick will be under contract now until he is 29 years old, a great deal for both sides as that is typically when running backs hit their career plateau.
