Steelers Head Coach Tomlin Gets Three-Year Extension

Mike Tomlin, one of the best coaches of the last twenty years, has signed an extension for three more years, keeping him in Pittsburgh through 2027. Tomlin, most notable for not having a losing season since taking over the Steelers' head coaching job in 2007, is more than deserving of a new contract. His ability to control a locker room through multiple dysfunctional situations—from Big Ben and AB to, more recently, Quarterback Kenny Pickett—demonstrates his exceptional leadership. He has won one Super Bowl in 11 playoff trips and secured 7 division titles in his 17 years as coach.

Career Accolades:

  • 0 losing seasons
  • 173-100 all-time record
  • 13th all-time in wins
  • 11 playoff seasons
  • 1x Super Bowl champion

A Look Ahead:

Tomlin has made the best of his groups over the years, and nothing should be expected to change this upcoming season. With veteran QB Russell Wilson now at the helm, it's possible that he will experience a career revival under his new head coach. Wilson stated that Tomlin was a large part of why he wanted to come to Pittsburgh as a free agent. The same can be said for current backup QB Justin Fields, who also mentioned Tomlin as a factor in his trade discussions. Regardless of which of the two QBs starts, the future of the Steelers is very exciting. They have a tremendous defense anchored by one of the league's best pass rushers in T.J. Watt, and a new regime on offense led by a former Super Bowl champion, all under the guidance of one of the best coaches of this modern era. With Tomlin now under contract for the next few years, the time to win is now in Pittsburgh, and we will have to see if they can accomplish the ultimate goal.
