Waddle & Dolphins Ink 3-Year Extension

Former Alabama wide receiver and known speedster Jaylen Waddle has signed a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension with the Miami Dolphins. This new deal retains him through 2028 and places him in the upper echelon of wide receivers in terms of annual average value, ranking him fifth. The former first-round draft pick has had a successful start to his career in Miami, thriving under head coach Mike McDaniel's system and developing a strong rapport with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

A Great Move for the Offense:

Waddle's unique speed creates mismatches for defenses in multiple phases of the game. He’s an elite threat with the ball in his hands, excelling in the short game while also being one of the best deep threats in the league. His connection with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been evident since he entered the league in 2021. To date, Waddle has surpassed 1,000 yards every season and has never had fewer than 70 catches. This elite output from a player entering his fourth year in the NFL leaves high expectations for his upcoming prime years.

Looking Ahead:

Locking down Waddle for the foreseeable future shows the organization’s understanding that this is their time to invest for a Super Bowl run. With the AFC East expected to be highly competitive, continuing to bolster and strengthen the core of the team is crucial. It’s even better when those core pieces are homegrown through the draft, serving as a testament to the team’s successful scouting and development.
