Keys to Victory on Sunday

The Minnesota Vikings take on the Detroit Lions in a big divisional matchup. The Lions have won 4 out of their last 5 and look to improve to a 6-7 record and keep fighting to get a playoff spot. The Vikings, however, hope to win the division on Sunday and improve to 11-2.

Here are some keys to a Vikings victory:

  1. Contain the Lions‘ weapons. The Lions offense has been very good- this year in large part due to the emergence of Amon Ra, Swift, Williams, and new first round pick Jamison Williams. The Lions will put up points, but it is important for this defense to hold the Lions out of the end zone. The Vikings will need to clamp down inside the 20 if they want a shot.
  2. Get Jefferson involved. Jefferson only had 14 yards against the Lions last time and if that happens again we will not win. It is up to Cousins and O'Connell to get Jefferson the ball and let him do his thing. Last week they got him involved in the running game, jet sweeps, and short passing game.
  3. Protect Kirk Cousins. Last week the offense disappeared in the second half and that was in large part due to the offensive line giving sacks and critical pressures. Darrisaw is questionable so even if he doesn't play, we have to protect Kirk and make sure we sustain longer drives. If we keep going 3 and out this Lions offense will keep scoring. It is very important to establish the running game in order to open up the passing game.
