Keys to Victory on Sunday

With a couple extra days of rest because they played on Thanksgiving, the Vikings look to improve to 10-2 on the season when they host the Jets on Sunday. In order to pick up the win against the Jets there are a few keys for the Vikings to pull it off:

  1. Quick throws to help the offensive line. We had a great game plan against the Patriots' pass rush and it will be necessary in this game as well as the Jets also have a great pass rush. It is key to get the ball out quickly and not put us in 3rd and long situations. The Jets have a great defense, so it is important to stay ahead in the game and take advantage of any chances that come our way.
  2. Blitz Mike White and create pressure. Mike White looked great last week for the Jets, but he is inexperienced. The Vikings defense, whether it is through blitzing or just relying on our front 4, have to get him rattled and not give him all day. Since the Jets' defense is amazing, we can't allow another 24 plus points to go up on the board and expect to win. We are going to have to prevent touchdowns if we want a shot.
  3. Get in a rhythm and get the ball to our best players. One of the reasons our offense was in such a good spot last game was because of the opening drive and the tone it set. In the Dallas game, by way of contrast, we saw from the opening drive that everything was out of synch and it wasn't going to be a pretty game. We have to keep feeding Jefferson, Cook, Thielen, and Hockenson the ball. No matter what. Kirk needs to trust that his players are going to make plays, even against the best defenses in the NFL. He showed that trust playing against the Patriots and that's the reason we put up 33 points against the number 1 defense in the NFL.
